Dog industry business consultant Veronica Boutelle recommended the DTIA program to me when I asked about apprenticeship programs. She is familiar with every program in the country and unequivocally pronounced the DTIA the best one available. Well, she didn’t oversell it. Janis is an excellent instructor and a master of her industry. She prepared us thoroughly for every aspect of being a successful, effective dog trainer. I not only feel confident I can handle any behavioral issue that comes my way, I also know I have the training and tools to work with my clients in a professional and productive manner. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
As a lucky recipient of the DTIA scholarship I got to advance my career in animal welfare through this comprehensive, professional program. I gained a much deeper understanding of behavior and training, body language, stress, fear, and how environment plays a major role in a dog’s life. As the Adoptions Manager at a local rescue, the knowledge I acquired has been incredibly valuable. I truly feel that this program will help me save more lives by placing dogs in more appropriate homes and giving adopters the follow up support they need to work through common issues. I am now able to give every client professional, yet easy to understand, advice that can change the way they view their dogs and set them up for success. Attending the DTIA program was a wonderful decision. Not only will it advance my career but it has also opened the door to so many other professional possibilities. I use the skills and techniques I learned every single day, even with my own dog! I’d like to thank the DTIA instructors for being so open with sharing their knowledge and for choosing me for the scholarship.
DTIA gave me a real understanding of the how and why of science-based, positive reinforcement training. It’s a rigorous school schedule & program. Everyone gets something different out of this experience. If you are dedicated to learning about training and behavior, you’ll be able to take the knowledge from this program and apply it to any of your work in animal care. I now come into new training situations with the ability to pinpoint all the necessary information and make a plan with confidence. It really provided me structure in which I could finally study in depth, what I needed to.
The wonderful trainers in the Dog Training Internship Academy (DTIA) helped make my dreams a reality. Though I had many years of experience working with animals of all sorts (e.g. dolphins, reptiles, rodents, livestock, dogs), I had very little experience in the field of animal behavior and learning. Specifically, I had little knowledge about dog training except what the media portrayed on TV. DTIA gave me a solid, science-based foundation in animal learning theory, and a lot of hands-on training to apply the theory. Not only do I have a greater understanding about how animals learn best and many hours of practice under my belt, but I also was given the skills to start my own dog training business right after graduation!
As a business and career consultant in the dog services industry, I’m often asked which schools I recommend for dog trainers. The Dog Training Internship Academy with Janis Bradley is not to be missed. This kind of comprehensive, hands-on opportunity to be mentored over an extended period of time by a true educator is rare in our industry. Not only does Janis have outstanding experience and credentials in the dog training world, having put hundreds of trainers through the San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers, she also has a solid background in teaching and curriculum development. This combination makes her program invaluable to anyone seeking a career as a dog trainer. I highly recommend the Dog Training Internship Academy with Janis Bradley to anyone serious about becoming a dog trainer or developing his or her skills to the fullest.
